2010-

NBC News Rod Carter airs his interview with the artist. The artist goes into Tampa Bay Community Network Studios and tapes an interview about "El lector" and his career. Reporter Sandy Frye conducts the most in depth interview ever done on the artist to date. John Casimiro produces.

Tampa Tribune reporter Kathy Greenberg interviews the artist for an article to be released prior to the "El lector" exhibit.

Public Access producer, John Casimiro visits the artist studio and films the artist at work. An in studio interview is scheduled for 31 Aug. 2010, with an air date for early Sept. 2010.

The Maddux Report and 83 Degrees publish articles on the artist and his upcoming "El lector" exhibit.

The artist is nominated for the second year in a row to sit on the board of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County.

The Hispanic newspaper, "El Centro" publishes a large expose of the artist written by reporter Carolina Salazar.

The artist is interviewed live by Lissett Campos for ABC Action News on his piece, “El lector.”

The artist attends several dance performances at the invitation of Publicist Amy Summers of Pitch, Inc. One of those performances is David Dorfman's dance about the abolitionist John Brown. The artist is profoundly influenced by David Dorfman's innovative techniques that involve the audience in the performance. He is especially impressed with Dorfman's use of subtle psychological tricks to bring his point across. He remarks to his publicist, "I want to do a series of paintings not only based on the dance itself, but I really want to find a way to make the viewer feel as claustrophobic and unsettled as David made me feel. He really made me think."

The artist is commissioned by Ferman Acura and Mazda to do a logo for the TBBCA event, ‘Chalk Walk 2010’ over 30 chalk and plein air artists attend and participate in the event. The artist does a large chalk drawing ‘Re-inventing the Renaissance,’ as his personal contribution. Charlie Belcher of Fox 13 News interviews the artist live.

The artist is invited to decorate the Taylor Great Room at the Florida Aquarium with his newest works.

The artist creates a 40 foot chalk composition for the Florida Aquarium’s anniversary. The children who attended the event were then invited to use colored chalks to fill in the large drawing. The artist is interviewed by Fox 13 news.

The artist works with Pitch, Inc. and TBBCA by creating a chalk drawing for the TBBCA fundraiser at Hyde Park’s beautiful Cinebistro.

The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County honors the artist and his newest work for them; ‘Divergence Parachute.’

The artist paints ‘El lector,’ (The Lector) in honor of the direct contribution of both his grandfathers to Ybor City’s labor struggles and the march toward literacy at the turn of the twentieth century.

The artist begins to work in a new style marking a dramatic shift from the look, feel and subject matter of his popular resist paintings. The artist explains that he was tired of illustrating his thoughts and feelings and now wanted to express himself and his times. He explains it publicly in his trademark direct style: "These are difficult times for an artist to be working in. Fascist 'Tea Baggers' are knocking at the door of my country, computers are pushing the world and art into new, unforeseen directions, two wars, record high unemployment. Oil companies are destroying the oceans while politicians apologize to them for doing it...Now will someone kindly tell me how I express all this in a still life? Or maybe a nice landscape?" 

The artist is commissioned to paint his eighth public work for The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County

2009-

In July, the artist's mural done in conjunction with the Children's Board goes on display at the Tampa Historical Center. Featured simultanousley in a separate display area plays the video of the artist and his colleagues, Maida Millan and Caesar Carbajal from the 2007 Monadnock Production Documentary. That same month, the artist designs and paints three awards for The Vitamin Angels. The international charity presents the awards to it's the biggest donors in Los Angeles.

Mr. Lopez paints the back drop for Academy Prep's annual closing stage show.

The artist is commissioned to do another public project scheduled for March of 2009 in conjunction with Tampa Bay Business Committee for the Arts and Blue Moon Beer. The artist also expands his palette by recording voice overs for four characters in the upcoming 'Ghostwalk,' with Julia Gorzka of Brand Tampa.

The artist volunteers to assist the Junior League of Tampa and the Redlands Christian Migrant Association by presenting an art workshop for children of migrant workers at Beth Shields Middle school. Over twenty children attend.

The artist is honored with his first museum exhibit at the Tampa Historical Museum, with the airing of a documentary featuring the artist and the exhibition of his mural done for Children's of Future Hillsborough.

The artist is commissioned for another sidewalk mural for Blue Moon Beer.

2008-

The artist is filmed by WEDU, the education channel working with students from the Prodigy Program.

The artist begins his sixth public work for 2008. The work is a 10' x 10' sidewalk pastel painting for the Hyde Park district of Tampa, FL.

The Children's Board honors the artist and the Tampa Tribune prints a feature article on the artist for their 10 December 2008 edition. The artist is intervewed and filmed by BayNews 9, Latin edition and the interviewed is played throughout the month on the premier news channel.

The artist participates in a group show at West Tampa Center for the Arts. Over 1,000 people attend the event.

The Children's Board mural tours Hillsborough County throughout the remainder of the year and into 2009.

The Board of Directors for the Arts Council of Hillsborough County recommend the artist for a seat on the Arts Council.

The artist is invited to exhibit in a group show at the Artpool Gallery in St. Petersburg, FL. as part of the Sound Fx: Art Party show.

The artist assembles families and children who recieve services from Children of Future Hillsborough at The People's All Purpose Community Center in Temple Terrace, FL. to begin the mural. Over fifty children participated. The artist was assisted by staff from Children of Future Hillsborough, Inc., and the Family Advisory Council in coordinating the first phase (photos published in galleries section). The artist then took the eighteen foot canvas to his studio and completed the work. Mural unveiled to the public at The Artist and Writer's Deep Carnival in Ybor City on the 27th of Sept.

The artist signs to do his fifth public art project in conjunction with The Children's Board and Children's Future of Hillsborough County. The work will be displayed at the Ybor Carnival and then at the Children's Board.

Artist is invited to show in Poltical fundraiser alongside over thirty nationally and internationally recognized artists. Hundreds attend and the exhibit is covered in the press.

Artist signs on to teach classes for Prodigy Cultural Arts Program exclusively in Hillsborough County

Elio Lopez and fellow artist Caesar Carbajal are interviewed and published in The Tampa Tribune South Tampa Edition.

The artist creates a new mural, (his fourth public work), in conjunction with the artLOUD program. The work is prominently displayed on the busy intersection of Cass & Franklin streets in Tampa, FL.

The new Historical Museum in Tampa, FL. airs a documentary filmed late last year featuring the artist.

2007 --

Artist applies for Guggenheim Fellowship

Artist filmed by Monadnock Media for a documentary to be released in 2008 for the new Tampa Historical Museum

Artist signs contract and paints a mural for Dade City Boys & Girls Clubs, Dade City, FL. Fade Magazine prints an interview of the project for their May 2007 issue.

“La hereje,” and “El abrazo,” sell at high prices at auction sponsored by The Georgia Lawyers for the Arts, Atlanta, GA.
